Some link love for Curacao
April 9th, 2007 by Joost SchrierAs you probably know, or not, Dragonfly Media is based in Curacao. This small South-Caribbean island, just off the coast of Venezuela, used to be a Dutch colony and is now part of the Netherlands Antilles. This will change next year when the Netherlands Antilles will be desolved and Curacao will get the same status that Aruba has now (independent, but still part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands).
When Americans ask me where the heck Curacao is I usually say that it lies next to Aruba because it seems like everyone in the US knows Aruba, but not its neighbour Curacao. We feel that this really is a shame because we are really fond of Curacao and we like it even more because it is not as Americanised as most Caribbean islands (sorry guys). Luckily, on the internet spatial dimensions don’t mean as much as they do in real life so we would like to show people to some good sites and blogs about Curacao. Then, maybe, you will pay the island a visit before the rising tourism numbers make this island into another Jamaica, Bahamas or Aruba.
Some general, must-see websites:
www.curacao.com: general information website with everything you need to know about Curacao before visiting. From information about the beaches, activities and hotels to what to wear and whether or not you need an adapter for your hairdryer. Design note: very cool design!
www.curacaodive.com: information about the yearly Dive Festival (coming end of next month) and general information about diving on Curacao.
www.investcuracao.com: website specifically geared towards people looking to invest in Curacao. There’s some prime opportunities here.
www.hsmaicuracao.org: the local chapter of the HSMAI (Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association Internation - www.hsmai.org). This one also includes a blog with info about the hospitality sector and internet marketing for the hospitality sector.
And some blogs of people who have written about their visit to Curacao or live here. Regrettably most blogs about Curacao are in Dutch, but these are in English.
serialprocrastination.blogspot.com: this is a personal favorite. It is a blog by an American student who lives here. Sometimes hilarious (especially his post about diet water), sometimes informative, but always a good read.
ijspencer.blogspot.com/2007/04/curacao-nederland-antilles.html: an article about Curacao through the eyes of a sailor on a US Navy ship.
the-making-of-curacao-the-movie.blogspot.com: blog about the making of a documentary/promotional video about Curacao.
fairviewsue.blogspot.com/search/label/Curacao: part of the blog of Fair View Sue. She is apparently on Curacao right now and she writes about her experiences here.
If you know of more websites/blogs about Curacao that you want to give some link love just drop them in the comments and we will add them to the post.

Hi Dragonfly Media and readers! I traveled to Curacao with a dive group in 2003 and we all had a fantastic time! We recommend Curacao to anyone planning a Caribbean trip as it was a very romantic, removed, yet civilized destination. Beautiful tropical beaches, a colorful European style City, great restaurants and museums, Curacao has it all and more. I know I sound like an ad, but really it is a great place and part of that is that it is undiscovered. We would consider retiring there. Make a trip, you will not regret it.
