Jeugdfonds Nederlandse Antillen (Youth Fund Netherlands Antilles) is a charitable organisation that wants to improve the life of children in general on the Netherlands Antilles. They do this by searching for partners to finance projects and by setting up new projects and grants.

JENA (short for Jeugdfonds Nederlandse Antillen) focuses on

  • Projects that contribute to the necessities for improving youth welfare work in general
  • Enhancement of chances and opportunities for young people to improve themselves
  • Helping with continuity and safety in instituionalised activities in youth welfare work

These are all very worthy goals of course and luckily there are many people here on Curacao and the rest of the Netherlands Antilles that contribute with money and sweat to further their cause. Besides our monetary donations we also wanted to help with something we’re good at. Hence this report.

Explanation

It looks like the person that made this website did keep the search engines in mind when building this website. The website does not use frames, it has meta-tags and titles that are unique for every page and it has a sitemap. So, this is a good start. When you do a search on Google for relevant phrases (jeugd antillen, jeugd welzijnswerk antillen, etc.) the website also ranks pretty well. There is still room for improvement though.

One of the improvements that’s at the same time the most powerful booster and the easiest to do for this website would be to get more links to the website. As this is a charity website people will be happy to link to it (or, even better: they wouldn’t dare say no) and you should take advantage of this.

If you do a search for “jeugd welzijnswerk antillen” on Google, you get almost 600 results. if only half of these websites put a link to your website on theirs than you’ve already got a useful start. Better yet, some of these websits have some PageRank so they can really boost the authority of your website.

Another way of getting links for a charity is to create a simple badge that people can put on their website which says something like “We donated to help our youth” which you send to your contributors. It would be good for their reputation and your promotion when they put it on their website with a link.

The pages on jeugdfonds-na.com all have a unique title and meta-tags. This is good because it helps in keeping pages from being categorized as “similar results” and it helps to focus the power of those pages. Two things though; in all pages, including the home page, the same content is used for the descriptions as for the keywords.

It is good, and useful, to use your keywords in your description, but you should use them in descriptive sentences. The description meta-tag is what is shown in most search engines below the title of your page and if you tell people what your page is about it will help in getting them to click. A problem for this website is the fact that it uses a JavaScript menu instead of a normal or CSS menu. The search engines do not read JavaScript so they will not see the links in the menu to the internal pages.
