Website overhaul: janera.com

December 19th, 2007 by Joost Schrier

A few months ago we came into contact with Janera Soerel, a Curacaoan woman living in New York. At that time her website was in Beta and needed improvements for it to be officially launched. After an interesting meeting and a lot of emails we could start overhauling nearly the entire website.

Janera.com is an online publication and international social network for Global Nomads. A rough description of a global nomad is; “a person who identifies with more than his/her national origins and sees himself/herself as a citizen of all countries”.  Consequently the website’s members come from the US, Europe, Asia and Latin America and I believe there’s a few African people as well.

There were several aspects of the website which we needed to improve. We had to repair and improve existing functionalities, add new functionality, make the website more interactive, create a better logical structure, touch up on the design (not too much) and make the website more search engine friendly. It was quite an extensive project and there were several changes mid-development, but the website was officially launched this week with all requested changes included.

We just checked the website and saw that after the official launch there were a lot of new applications for membership and we believe that if the website’s team keeps working on providing interesting, engaging content and the (new) members continue to add their own content this website can really become a force to be reckoned with. Right now, the team will focus on adding the magazine’s second edition and we will probably need to add some more functionality soon, but this is a good start for an interesting website.
