Michael Tchong - trend analyst - on Curacao

If you compare the speed at which the world has changed in the previous century to the speed at which it has changed this past decade, you can easily compare the first to a slug that had a few beers too many and the second to an antelope with ADD on speed. It’s no secret that the world is becoming smaller and faster by the minute.

When people look at trends, we can see what is going on at that moment and can think about how we can - and have to - use these trends in our business. However, people usually don’t look much further than that nor do they take the time to look beyond what’s in front of their noses. That’s where trend analysts like Michael Tchong come in.

Michael Tchong doesn’t look at trends specifically, but he looks at so-called Ubertrends. These are the trends that influence the trends which in turn influence us. One of these Ubertrends is the time-compression Ubertrend in which Michael shows the way in which the internet, smartphones, Starbucks and multi-tasking all work together to rob us of two hours of sleep each night.

At the 3rd Annual HSMAI Caribbean Strategy Conference Michael was the keynote speaker and many of the people that we spoke to about this conference thought that his was thé most interesting presentation of the conference. Someone even said that he usually finds these keynote presentations quite boring, but was on the edge of his seat at this one.

On Thursday May 29th Michael Tchong will be in the auditorium of the Central Bank of The Netherlands Antilles on Curacao to speak about these Ubertrends and to give everyone some insights in concepts that are, or will become, important for everyone’s business.
