Carmabi
Carmabi stands for Caribbean Research & Management of Biodiversity. They provide facilities and logistical support
to upwards of 70 visiting researchers and graduate students per year, manage nine protected areas on Curacao and run an
educational program reaching about 12,000 school children per year. Carmabi is the organisation that makes sure Curacao's
unique nature is preserver and the people are educated about it.
This new website is the first of six that we are building for them. Carmabi.org will be the main website where people can
find information about what they do and what Carmabi stands for. The other five websites will focus on specific areas of
interest (the Curacao marine park, education, the research station, Christoffel Park and the Savonet Museum).
The Wine Factory
The Wine Factory Curacao is an exceptionally open and friendly wine store. No musky cellars and small lights here, but an
open space with a big tasting table, stacks of wine boxes and parafernalia everywhere. At the Wine Factory you can always
taste the wines you are thinking of buying.
The Wine Factory's new website is not only a marketing tool, but also a functional application. People looking for a great
wine can browse the stock (new wines are added regularly), wholesalers and hospitality businesses can get an account to
browse the wines available for them and soon people will also be able to order their wines online.
The photographs are made by
Daphne Photography,
the texts were written by Elaine Marchena and the Content Management System is
Joomla 1.5.
Churandy Martina
Churandy Martina was the man of the year 2008 in Curacao. He put Curacao on the map by winning track races
all over the world and ultimately finishing second in the 200 meters sprint at the Olympic Games in Beijing.
Regretfully he was later disqualified for stepping on a line but that didn't stop people from idolizing him
and giving him a warm welcome home.
In 2009 Churandy is running a good season again with gold and silver medals at the races he competes in and
the day the website went live he was even the first athlete to run the 100 meters in under 10 seconds in Holland.
Churandy Martina's website is a 'cool' site with a lot of black (never goes out of fashion), several shades of
grey and the national colors of Curacao. There are many pictures of Churandy peppered throughout the site which
are shown randomly on page refresh. The website is set to also include a blog and Twitter but Churandy has to
concentrate on racing first before he does anything with this.
Princess Wilhelmina Fund
The Princess Wilhelmina Fund is the Cancer Foundation of Curacao. They do a lot of good work educating people and
caring for the people that suffer from cancer. PWF is not a very rich organisation and its run entirely by volunteers
so they did not have time or money to improve on their previous website. So, we offered to build a new one for
them free of charge.
The new website of the PWF is focused on providing people with information about cancer and the organisation itself.
It has a lot of content (in Papiamentu) so we have kept the design very simple and open. The website has no CMS
because we will continue to do the updates to save them time.
The design for pwf.an was made by Max (one of our interns) together with people of PWF.
Extra - Notisia di Korsou
The Curacao newspaper Extra is the largest newspaper on Curacao. One out of every six people on Curacao buys this
newspaper and there is no lack of advertisers. The Extra really is on top of things, but their website desperately
needed a face-lift and full-body workover.
The new Extra website needed to have a design that appeals to the Antillean common (wo)man. Their taste is very
different from American or European tastes and it was quite the challenge to make sure that it was clear-cut,
but still had the bold look and feel that Antilleans favor.
The Extra also made a big step forward by including the possibility for the community to comment on the issues'
articles. No other newspaper on Curacao allows its readers this degree of freedom to express their opinion
concerning items in the news. By doing this they are converting readers into members of their community
which is what web 2.0 is all about.
Belgian Flavour Chocolate Line
Everybody knows that the Belgians make the best chocolate in the world. Soon Curacao will have its own Belgian
Master Chocolatier who will make the finest bon bons, pralines and chocolate from Belgian and local products.
Dieter Doens of Belgian Flavour asked us to create for him a logo, a basic template for his advertising and, of course, his website.
The web design for this website had to show the temptress that chocolate is to a lot of people. The idea was that if you could
smell a website, this website had to smell like chocolate (somebody actually said this). Belgian Flavour's website has no
fancy tricks, content management systems or heavy internet marketing campaigns. It's Belgian chocolate on a Caribbean
island, it sells itself!
Coaching Magazine
Coaching Magazine is thé Curacao magazine for management professionals. It is published 4 times per year and is
in its fifth year now. Coaching features articles by professional writers covering a vast array of subjects;
from articles about corporate governance to Feng Shui in the office.
This is another cooperative project with
Bas Kok
Creatieve Communicatie so Bas created the web design for the website and we implemented it in a web format.
The Coaching website is fully self-updatable. We used Wordpress as the CMS for this website, because it resembles a
blog in many ways, but added our own functions to make sure that there is no overhead and it all fits snugly in
this design. The website holds an impressive amount of useful, interesting content which will benefit the
website greatly of course.
Sentro Orto Fisiko Korsou
Sentro Orto Fisiko Korsou is one of those local marvels that makes you think about how a small island can have
larger-than-life people. This center for high-tech prostheses and orthotics is one of the most scientifically
advanced centers of its kind in the greater Caribbean region. The modest prosthesist Tom de Windt and his wife,
physiotherapist Mieke, run a practice that looks simple at first glance. But when you see how they give people
hope with state of the art artificial limbs you see the bigger picture.
The previous website of Sentro Orto Fisiko was one of the oldest websites of Curacao, but not much had
been done on it since. They came to us after we did a free SEO-report on the site within the
Curacao SEO Project and asked us to redo their website so it would rank better
in the search engines.
Renaissance Curacao
Resort & Casino
Renaissance Curacao Resort & Casino is the newest hotel
on Curacao. It is due to open its doors in January
2009. The redesigned website functions as a portal for information
about the status of the construction, investor information and
as a job board. The hotel needed a redesign of their website
because they wanted the official Renaissance colors to be more
prominent, they needed more pages for information and they needed
added functionality for the job board.
Curacao Dialysis Center
The Curacao Dialysis Center is a private clinic for haemodialysis.
They needed a new website which had to focus on a Caribbean
look&feel in a professional, medical setting. Dragonfly
created a web design, got them in touch with our photographer
and provided them with a professional text editor. Dragonfly
Media also designed several of the center's corporate identity
products.
